This 2017 Marianne - Symbol of the French Republic 100€ silver coin bears a modern yet historically inspired design, with an impressive fineness of 900 and a unique look. Since 2008, Monnaie de Paris is honouring numismatic symbols, beginning with the Sower, followed by tributes to Hercule, the Rooster and now a major symbol of the French Republic, Marianne. She appeared for the first time on the 5 centimes coin by Augustin Dupré in 1795, and is featured on currency up to the present day on the obverse of the French copper cents. On the obverse of this coin, Marianne is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, a cockade and is surrounded by birds in flight, and as an allegory of freedom, the word 'Liberté' accompanies the scene. The reverse shows the face value surrounded by two branches, oak and laurel, reminiscent of the Euro symbol, and is presented within a hexagonal design to represent the shape of France.
