This series of Treasures of Paris coins are produced by Monnaie de Paris, France’s oldest continuously operating minting institution, founded in 864. This silver coin has a nominal value of 10€, however they are traded at a much higher price on the bullion coin market due to the state-of-the-art know-how of the Monnaie de Paris craftsmen who are able to expertly and creatively engrave precious metals.
This 2016 Treasures of Paris Opéra Garnier 10€ silver coin bears a modern yet classically inspired design. With an impressive fineness of 950 and a unique look, the obverse depicts the facade of the Opéra Garnier, revealed from behind a curtain engraved with a music sheet and libretto, which was opened in 1875 after an international competition was launched for the construction of the building, with Charles Garnier winning. The coin also features one of the statues in Opera Square emphasised by gold gilding, and the reverse proposes a modern view of the Paris map, with all 20 districts are symbolised by small pyramids. Above this is the name of the series, and below bears the face value and yeardate.
