The Krugerrand is the official bullion coin of South Africa, and was first issued by the South African Mint in 1967, as a way of stimulating the economy. As the first modern bullion coin, it was incredibly popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and by 1980 it accounted for 90% of the global bullion coin market. The design on the obverse side of the coin shows Paul Kruger, the 5th President of the South African Republic, while the reverse side depicts a South African springbok. The Krugerrand is legal tender in South African, and so was minted in a durable gold-copper alloy. It contains 1 troy ounce of fine gold, and as such is often traded at a high price. Newly minted and expertly crafted, this new Krugerrand coin is the perfect addition to any bullion coin collection.
