This France by Jean Paul Gautier 200€ gold coin bears a modern yet historically inspired design, with an impressive fineness of 999 and a unique look. Jean Paul Gaultier once said, “I like to look at things from an unusual perspective and question what’s expected”, and this year Monnaie de Paris is presenting this unique viewpoint on their coins. This series shows the cities, provinces and regions of France through the eyes of the iconic fashion designer, and the observe of this gold coin features the French national motto 'Liberté égalité fraternité', finding its origins in the French Revolution, and translated as freedom, equality, and fraternity. The phrase is depicted alongside a rose, with the overall aesthetic reminiscent of a traditional tattoo design, only emphasising Gaultier's reputation and nickname of 'fashion’s terrible child'. The reverse shows the face value surrounded by two branches, oak and laurel, reminiscent of the Euro symbol, and is presented within a hexagonal design to represent the shape of France.
